“Hikes were great, camping was terrible. We were swarmed with wasps at the campground nonstop, we couldn't do anything. They were immune to smoke. We couldn't eat, cook, relax, anything. It totally ruined the experience. ”
“The sites are not as long as stated in the description. Getting a trailer or Fifth Wheel in to many spots is impossible even though the description states the spot will accommodate the equipment. Site driveways point the wrong direction for parking a trailer or Fifth Wheel.”
This weekend (Fri, Oct 30 – Sun, Nov 1): First come, first served. The listing marks this stay first come, first served — no online reservations.

Azalea Campground sits at about 6,500 feet in the central Sierra Nevada within Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks, planted in a mixed-conifer stand of sugar pines, incense cedar, fir and sequoia. The loop contains 102 sites in all 82 that accommodate both RVs and tents and 20 tent-only sites each outfitted with a picnic table, metal fire ring and a bear-proof food storage box; flush toilets and potable water are available on site. Sites are sized for groups of 1 6 people, and Grant Grove Village with the Kings Canyon Visitor Center, a restaurant, gift store, post office and market is close by for supplies and information. During late spring, summer and early fall Azalea operates on reservations; at other times sites are first-come, first-served and payments are handled through the Recreation.gov mobile app's scan-and-pay feature. Entrance fees apply (1 7 day vehicle pass $35; per-person $20 on foot or bicycle; motorcycle $30) and camping costs $32 per night (reduced to $16 per night with a valid lifetime Access Pass or lifetime/annual Senior Pass); facility-specific questions and reservation issues can be directed to (559) 565-4357. From the campground you can walk or drive to a Sequoia Grove that includes the General Grant Tree (the Nation's Christmas Tree and a living memorial to veterans), hike to Ella Falls a 50-foot cascade or climb the short spur to Panoramic Point for wide views of the high Sierras. The park's broader playground granite and marble carved by glaciers and rivers, miles of streams, thousands of lakes and underground caverns supports abundant wildlife: black bear, mule deer, gray and golden-mantled ground squirrels and many resident birds. Azalea is roughly an hour's drive from the Giant Forest and the General Sherman tree, about 30 minutes from fishing at Hume Lake, and within reach of Converse Basin/Chicago Stump for anyone interested in the area's logging history. Note practical restrictions and cancellation rules before you go: vehicles over 22 feet are not advised on the Sequoia National Park approach between Potwisha Campground and the Giant Forest Museum (use the Kings Canyon entrance instead), reservation changes or cancellations carry a $10 service fee with additional charges for late cancellations, and any site left vacant 24 hours after the arrival date will be cancelled and charged for the first night plus a $10 cancellation fee under Recreation.gov policies. Activities across the parks include auto touring, camping, hiking, climbing, fishing, horseback riding and wildlife viewing.
