Wishon Campground sits at about 4,000 feet along two forks of the Tule River, and a small creek courses through the site before joining the river that begins in the Golden Trout Wilderness. The campground is laid out in three sections the Front Entrance (sites 2 9), the Main Loop (sites 11 33) and the Doubles Spur (sites 34 36) and offers 33 reservable campsites, each configured to accommodate both RVs and tents. It is open year-round, so you can plan a shoulder-season trip when trails are quieter or a summer stay to take advantage of the river; visitors can often wade in the Tule at Wishon Fork. The broader Sequoia National Forest around Wishon features remnant giant sequoia groves (Wishon, Silver Creek, Burro, Maggie Mountain, Middle Tule and Upper Tule) and a landscape that ranges from steep canyons to mountain streams and waterfalls farther up the range. Recreation at and near Wishon centers on hiking and fishing the Rose Grave Trailhead is nearby and local stretches of the Tule River give anglers places to try their luck but the forest offers a wider variety of activities including biking, horseback riding and horse camping, off-highway vehicle travel on designated routes, interpretive programs, and overnight stays in fire lookouts or cabins in other parts of the forest. Practical details: campsites are reservable (call the Sequoia National Forest facility number at (661) 455-6010 for site-specific information), the campground is accessed from Highway 190 east of Springville by a short drive up Wishon Drive (about four miles) before Doyle Springs, and the setting provides direct water access and ready trail access rather than hookups or services not listed here plan accordingly for self-sufficiency.
