“Access to the park was convenient. No potable water when we went, and i wish there was more choices of sites for reservation. ”
“I booked this site second time and everything was amazing! This is a perfect site for a large group! Amazing views with a nice river stream across the campsite.”
“Very Nice and pretty big campsite. It's big enough that you can do stargazing right from your campsite and don't have to go anywhere to find a clear sky. The camp host did an amazing job to provide us with a clean toilet.”

LASSEN NATIONAL FOREST
Open in Google Maps ↗
Hat Creek Campground sits beside the cool, trout-rich waters of Hat Creek at about 4,390 feet in a mixed conifer forest where pine needles, grasses and volcanic rocks carpet the ground. The facility is small there are 12 campsites in total, and each is configured to accommodate both RVs and tents and sites are set widely apart so you rarely feel crowded. Picnic tables, campfire rings with grills, utility sinks, drinking water, and a mix of accessible flush and vault toilets are provided, and an RV dump station is located about 1.5 miles north behind the Old Station Visitors Center for visitors arriving with larger rigs. Individual sites are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and there are three group sites that can each hold up to 50 people for larger gatherings. Outdoor activity here follows the landscape: Hat Creek is known locally for trophy trout fishing and the creek's cold water is a welcome place to cool off on hot summer days. The campground sits a short walk from the Spatter Cones Nature Trail (just across the highway), a 1.5-mile loop that takes you among craters, cones and crevices created by the Hat Creek Lava Flow, and the Pacific Crest Trail is reachable near that trailhead. Less than half a mile away you can take a self-guided stroll through Subway Cave bring a flashlight for walking the lava tube and within a short drive are opportunities for wildlife viewing, hunting, backpacking and caving. Hat Creek Campground is roughly a mile west of the town of Old Station and about 12 miles east of the northwest entrance to Lassen Volcanic National Park, so it works well as a quiet base for exploring the park's hydrothermal features as well as the local volcanic geology.
