“Beautiful. Could see the stars very clearly. Was very very cold but that was to be expected. ”

Manzanita Lake Campground sits at about 5,900 feet and is the largest camping area inside Lassen Volcanic National Park, located roughly a mile south of the park entrance and just a short walk from Manzanita Lake. The lake is a family-friendly hub for fishing (the campground follows a catch-and-release policy) and non-motorized boating; kayak rentals are available nearby. On clear days campsites and short walks around the water offer direct views of Lassen Peak, the park's 10,457-foot volcano, while the surrounding forest of Jeffrey and Ponderosa pines frames meadows that burst with wildflowers in season. From the campground you can access a network of trails that are part of the park's 150+ miles of hiking routes range from easy family hikes to longer backcountry treks and the broader park supports a wide range of outdoor pursuits including auto touring, biking, paddling and horseback riding, plus opportunities for wildlife viewing, picnicking and historic-interpretive programs at The Loomis Museum and amphitheater. The campground has 170 sites in total, arranged into four loops Manzanita Loop A contains 44 sites, Loop B has 51, Loop C 47 and Loop D 28 and the site mix reflects the park's multi-use character: 133 sites accommodate both RVs and tents, one site is RV-only, and 36 are tent-only. Practical amenities in or very near the campground include paved roads, a small general store and pay showers; flush toilets and running water are turned on during the summer season while vault toilets are available outside peak months. Because seasonal services and campsite availability change, and because fees and reservation policies are set by the park, consult the park's camping page (Campgrounds of Lassen Volcanic) for current information before you go. The campground's proximity to the Loomis Ranger Station makes it convenient for trail information and ranger-led educational programs.
