“Lovely site (17, seemed the largest and among the most private). Description should include the long gravel road with stream crossing. ”

Warner Valley Campground sits in the southeastern quadrant of Lassen Volcanic National Park amid the same volcanic terrain that gives the park its signature steam vents and wildflower meadows. The site is a lightly developed facility with 17 individual campsites each listed as able to accommodate both tents and RVs but the approach is a long gravel road that becomes steep and rutted in places, so RVs and trailers are generally not recommended. Expect minimal services: seasonal vault toilets and potable water spigots are provided, but there are no hookups or flush restrooms, so bring needed supplies and be prepared for primitive conditions. The campground lies roughly a mile north of the Warner Valley Ranger Station and about 17 miles north of Chester via the Feather River Road/County Road 312 route toward Drakesbad, and numerous trailheads radiate directly from the campground for day hikes and backcountry access. Beyond the immediate site, Warner Valley makes a good base for exploring Lassen's volcanic features and diverse habitats the park contains some 300 volcanic domes, active hydrothermal areas such as mud pots and steam vents, and a wide range of plant and animal life. From the campground you can step onto trails that lead into meadows, lakes and higher ridgelines; elsewhere in the park visitors can enjoy auto touring, biking, boating, fishing, horseback riding and paddling, plus swimming, picnicking and abundant wildlife viewing. If you plan to camp here by reservation, note the cancellation policy: cancelling the day before or on the day of arrival incurs a $10 service fee and forfeits the first night's use fee (not to exceed the total paid); cancelling a one-night reservation forfeits the entire amount paid (no additional service fee). Drakesbad Guest Ranch is about a half mile down Warner Valley Road and offers a dining room (call the ranch for reservations), making it a convenient option if you want a cooked meal after a day on the trail.
