Genevieve M ★ 3 · Oct 2025It is a lovely and clean campsite with the bathrooms stocked with TP and the camp site areas clear to set up a tent (vs needing to bring a rake). I would like to share that there is no water available (even non-potable) which makes any fires very dangerous to have unless you bring a few fire extinguishers (possible spark spot fires).
Dawn M ★ 2 · Sep 2025No cell service (Xfinity) which is fine. Listed flushing toilets, there are none. Sites are close to each other but clean. Plenty of shade. There was no water when we stayed. (It was posted on the site) There are neighboring bogs (over 6) that bark 80% of the time. Forestry Fore is nearby, The ranger did make an appearance. Nobody checks you in or out or verifys. Lots of flying bugs during sunny hours. If you saw water pics, there is no body of water, closest one is the lake/reservoir 7 miles away. Overall was a peaceful stay. This was my first recreation.gov reservation/stay. Hope to have many more
Kira S ★ 5 · Aug 2025Really enjoyed this campground, site 22! The map is a little off (it shows the toilets nearby, it's wrong.) The bear box was something I've never seen before but heard about. Super easy to use, and it fit our cooler nicely. Fellow campers seemed to either not care or didn't know that a fire ban was in place. The Vista Point and Scenic Overlook east of camp on 20 was really awesome to visit. Unfortunately, people are not as kind as they should be and we ended up with a full grocery bag of trash that we removed from the brush near the lookout. Other than that, it was a lovely night. I chose this campground because it didn't force a night block for the weekend. 9/10, would camp again.

White Cloud Campground sits along Highway 20 in the Tahoe National Forest at about 4,200 feet, surrounded by stands of cedar, pine and Douglas fir that give the sites a quiet, forested feel. The campground contains 43 campsites in total: 35 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, and 8 tent-only sites, including several single-family sites and one double site. Every campsite is outfitted with a picnic table, a metal campfire ring, and access to drinking water; there are no other services listed onsite, so come prepared for basic, self-sufficient camping. The turnoff is on the Highway 20 corridor east of Nevada City, putting the campground within easy driving distance of the historic towns and services there while still feeling apart from the urban corridor. The campground is a practical base for exploring the Pioneer Trail a 25-mile National Recreation Trail since 2003 which is directly accessible from the campground and supports hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing where conditions permit. Beyond the trail, the area connects to a wide range of regional recreation: South Yuba River access and gold-rush era sites near Washington and Nevada City (Nevada City is roughly 10 14 miles west), interpretive overlooks such as Alpha and Omega and Washington Scenic Overlook, the Chalk Bluff OHV trails, and non-motorized riding on Grouse Ridge. Reservations and cancellations follow usual Forest Service rules: there is no change fee when adjustments include original reservation dates, but early departures may forfeit some or all fees. Where facilities record arrivals, no-shows are assessed a $20 fee and forfeit the first night's recreation fee (remote sites are often auto-checked-in); if you're delayed en route, contacting the facility can prevent a no-show charge.
