“Very clean sites. We were there Sunday through Tuesday so im not sure how the noise is on the weekend since the sites are pretty close to each other but we didn’t have a noise issue and were able to walk to the water no problem. ”

Giant Gap Campground sits on the north shore of the 160-acre Sugar Pine Reservoir at about 3,600 feet, surrounded by stands of cedar and ponderosa pine. The site is roughly 15 miles from the small town of Foresthill and is reached by following Sugar Pine Road off Forest Road 10; from Interstate 80 visitors travel east toward Foresthill before turning onto the forest roads that lead to the reservoir. The campground contains 26 total sites: 21 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and five tent-only sites, arranged as a mix of single- and double-family sites, with a few plots designated as accessible. Basic comforts include picnic tables, campfire rings and grills at each site, vault toilets and drinking water, and the on-site host typically sells firewood. A paved, non-motorized trail encircles the campground and links to the day-use area and nearby Shirttail Creek Campground, making it easy to stretch your legs without getting on the main road. Water-based recreation is the campground's main draw: fishing, canoeing, swimming and motorized boating are all popular on Sugar Pine Reservoir, and the nearby North Fork of the American River offers additional fishing and swimming spots. The surrounding Tahoe National Forest adds options for hiking and many miles of off-highway vehicle trails; the broader forest also supports biking, horseback riding, auto touring, hunting and wildlife viewing. Summertime conditions tend to be hot during the day and much cooler after sunset, so plan clothing and water needs accordingly. This listing does not include fee, reservation or seasonal-availability details, so check with the Tahoe National Forest ranger district before you go to confirm current regulations, site availability and any access considerations for RVs or trailers.
