“We love this campground and the lake is so peaceful and beautiful. The camp host this year was so nice and he had the sweetest dog too. The only downside was the flies in the bathroom, it was bad this year. But other that that we love it here. ”
“Can't beat only $25 a night for good views and nice camping spots. ”
“Great campground. Well maintained and nice big spots. We have a 30’ travel trailer and fit into spot 22 with 0 issues and also had room for a third car. Bathrooms are as clean as can be for a pit toilet. Lake is amazing and short walk away. We will be back for sure. ”

Shirttail Creek Campground sits on the north shore of Sugar Pine Reservoir in the Tahoe National Forest, about 15 miles from the small mountain town of Foresthill. The reservoir itself covers 160 acres at roughly 3,600 feet elevation, and the campground perches just above the waterline in a stand of manzanita and ponderosa pine where summer days are warm and nights cool. Water-based recreation is the draw here: anglers and boaters use both motorized and non-motorized craft on the lake, swimmers take advantage of the shoreline, and a paved, non-motorized accessible trail links recreation sites on the north and south shores with interpretive signs and shaded benches for thoughtful breaks. The North Fork of the American River is close by for additional fishing, whitewater boating and swimming, and many miles of hiking, mountain biking, equestrian and off-highway vehicle trails fan out from the wider Sugar Pine Recreation Area for those who want to explore beyond the lake. The campground is managed by Tahoe National Forest and has 27 sites in total 25 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and 2 tent-only sites configured as single and double family sites plus one triple site. Campsites include picnic tables, campfire rings and grills; vault toilets and drinking water are on site, and a few campsites are accessible. Firewood can be purchased from the host. Fees are posted per site type: single campsites (up to 8 people) $24.00, double campsites (up to 16 people) $48.00, and the triple campsite (up to 24 people) $72.00. Shirttail is one of several facilities in the Sugar Pine Recreation Area, which also offers another family campground, a group site, a boat ramp, a day-use picnic area and a trail that circles the lake; beyond the immediate recreation area, the Tahoe National Forest supports a wide range of activities including auto touring, hunting, horse camping and horseback riding, picnicking and wildlife viewing.
