Silver Creek Campground sits at about 7,100 feet on a mountainside forested with fir and pine, just above Noble Creek and about 11.7 miles south of Markleeville on Highway 4, east of Ebbetts Pass. The highway actually bisects the site, creating two small loops of single-family campsites; in total there are 22 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents. Each campsite includes a picnic table, a food storage locker, and a campfire ring with grill, and vault toilets and trash collection are provided on site. Note that there is no potable water the campground is designated dry camping only and the host sells firewood if you don't arrive with your own fuel. The campground is a practical base for anglers and hikers: the East Fork Carson River and several creeks nearby offer fishing, and the Pacific Crest Trail can be reached about three miles west of the campground for longer day hikes or thru-hike access. More broadly, Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest provides opportunities for biking, climbing, horseback riding and horse camping, OHV use, hunting, wildlife viewing and winter sports, so Silver Creek can serve as a convenient overnight hub for many of those activities. Because policies, fees and seasonal openings can change, bring your own water and supplies and check with the Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest Headquarters for current fees, reservation rules and road or seasonal access before you go.
