“Campground hosts did the best job of maintaining the site that I have ever seen. Five stars for that . The only negative was the blue-green algae bloom so I didn’t stay as long as I planned due to having dogs with me.”
“Camp Hosts were friendly & helpful. Campground & restrooms clean. Overall experience was great & will return.”
“Excellent, campsites, location is easy to get to, and not far at all from the backside of South Lake Tahoe, restrooms and showers just awesome, and some great hiking trails too. Highly recommend this campground. ”

Indian Creek Campground is currently CLOSED because of extensive damage from the 2021 Tamarack Fire and will remain closed until the Bureau of Land Management deems the area safe and facilities can be rebuilt; see the BLM press release for the latest status and reopening information. The site sits in the eastern foothills of the Sierra Nevada between Woodfords and Markleeville, spread across about 160 acres on the west bank of Indian Creek Reservoir at elevations roughly between 5,600 and 6,400 feet. Burnt ponderosa, Jeffrey and pinyon pines mingle with stands of sagebrush, and several campsites look through the trees toward the reservoir. Summer days are generally warm occasionally reaching around 90°F with cool evenings and the chance of dramatic mid-summer thunderstorms. Fishing is the principal draw here: trout are stocked in the reservoir and river, and the nearby East Fork of the Carson River is managed as a trophy fishery. Beyond the immediate shoreline you'll find a wide range of mountain recreation within easy reach whitewater rafting or kayaking on the East Fork, hiking segments of the Tahoe Rim Trail, exploring Blue Lakes or the Mokelumne Wilderness, and seasonal day trips into South Lake Tahoe, Hope Valley and other nearby high-country attractions. When the campground reopens it will offer a mix of campsite styles clustered into an RV/tent loop and a walk-to tent loop, with a total of 28 sites: 18 that accommodate both RVs (up to 34 feet) and tents, and 10 tent-only walk-to sites with nearby parking. A tent-only group site is available for groups of up to 40 people. The RV/tent loop hosts the main restrooms, which include flush toilets and hot showers, and potable drinking water is provided on site. Day users can expect four picnic sites, a boat ramp, a large parking area and restrooms with flush toilets. Access to the campground is via Airport Road just south of Indian Creek Reservoir, a short drive off Highway 89 south of Woodfords (follow Highway 89 approximately four miles south, then drive east on Airport Road about four miles to the entrance). Because the campground remains closed, reservations, fee collection and seasonal operations are suspended check the BLM Carson City district page or the press release before planning a trip so you have current information on reopenings, reservation procedures and any restrictions.
