June Lake Campground sits above the eastern shore of 257-acre June Lake at about 7,600 feet, with campsites scattered through a mixed aspen and pine stand and frequent sightlines to nearby 11,000 12,000-foot peaks. The site is moderate in size 28 campsites in all of which 21 are configured to accept both RVs and tents and 7 are tent-only. Campsites circle through a few overlapping loops rather than a single long row, and the campground provides basic comforts: drinking water, flush toilets and bear-proof lockers for food storage. Two marinas and boat rentals are a short walk or drive from the campground (they are not inside the campground itself), and the small town of June Lake sits within easy walking distance for groceries, gift shopping and restaurants. Outdoor options spill out from the campground: anglers cast for rainbow and Alpers trout right off the lake, while canoeing, boating and lakeside walks are all immediate choices. A network of trails minutes away draws hikers, mountain bikers and off-road riders; the Fern Lake Trail, a short drive from camp, leads into the Ansel Adams Wilderness, and skiing is a major winter activity in the area. Mono Lake is only a few minutes' drive, and Yosemite National Park is within reasonable day-trip distance. The campground is reached from U.S. Highway 395 via Highway 158 into the town of June Lake roughly 350 miles north of Los Angeles and 150 miles south of Reno with the entrance just past the local fire station. Note the reservation policy: once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager can modify your booking, so check Recreation.gov for current fees, availability and seasonal details before you go. Wildlife in the area includes black bear, mountain lion, mule deer, pine marten, pika and a variety of birds and fish, so plan food storage and campsites accordingly.
