“We loved how quiet it was there were just 8 of us from Sun afternoon to Tuesday. However there were downed trees everywhere. The good part was we were able to find firewood but it made the campground scruffy looking. ”
“Campground was very clean. Flush toilet and water available. Campground was well-maintained.”
“Our favorite camping spot. We come here every year. Take a day trip over to the dam and other boat docks to explore the Reservoir if you don't have a boat.”

Red Feather Campground sits on the eastern shore of Little Grass Valley Reservoir in the Northern Sierra Nevada at about 5,100 feet, where stands of pine and fir give way in places to open alpine meadows and direct views of the water. The reservoir created when the valley was flooded after dam construction in the 1960s offers a full suite of water activities: anglers chase trout and kokanee salmon (a valid California fishing license is required), while others boat, swim or tow skiers across open stretches of the 1,615-acre lake. A 13.5-mile Lakeshore Trail circles the lake and is popular with day hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders; it also links with the Pacific Crest Trail, the long-distance route stretching roughly 2,650 miles through three states. If you want a quieter side trip, Fowler Lake sits about 12 miles northeast at 5,446 feet and makes a pleasant destination for a picnic or short hike. The campground itself holds 59 single-family sites that accommodate both tents and RVs there are no utility hookups spread across two loops: LP1 with 21 sites and LP2 with 38 sites. A number of sites sit right on the water while others are tucked into the surrounding forest; every site has a paved parking spur, a table and a campfire ring with grill. Flush toilets and drinking water are provided, and bear-resistant trash bins are placed around the area; the nearby Maidu boat launch (adjacent to Little Beaver Campground and the Maidu Amphitheater) makes access to the lake easy. Standard sites are listed at $23 per night, with premium lakeside sites at $25; seasonal opening dates and reservation rules can vary, so check current Plumas National Forest information before you go.
