Keith C ★ 5 · Jul 2025Great campsite with great shade. Not all of them had good tree cover but ours did and it was 90s during the day so we got lucky. Overall, this is a really clean campground with no trash. Easy to get in and out. We used it to stage for dirt biking and the trails in the area are top notch. We also got lucky that the neighboring sites were all really quiet. Made it enjoyable to spend time in the woods without anyone blasting music until 2am. The Yuba River is right across the highway and a great spot to cool off and relax. No showers and 2 vault toilets. They also had large dumpsters to dump trash which was nice not having to carry it out. We will certainly be back again next year.
Javier J ★ 2 · Jul 2025The campground was great — the location is beautiful and not too crowded. The staff were very friendly, and the bathrooms were exceptionally clean. They came every day to clean and take out the garbage, which we really appreciated. Unfortunately, we had neighbors next door who played loud music on a speaker until midnight and weren't very cooperative when we asked them to turn it down. It would be nice if there were a bit more control or enforcement around quiet hours.
Tiffany P ★ 5 · Jun 2025I liked our spot 12 was wonderful

Cal-Ida Campground sits on Highway 49 about 13 miles south of Downieville, directly across the road from the North Yuba River, so the sound of flowing water and easy river access are constant parts of the experience. The small site plan 13 single-family campsites in total includes seven sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, one RV-only site, and five tent-only sites, giving groups and solo campers clear options depending on their setup. Oak, maple and locust trees are scattered through the loop, offering dappled shade over campsites and picnic areas; the river provides spots for wading, swimming and rainbow trout fishing, while seasonal rafting and kayaking run on the North Yuba. A network of nearby trails, including the North Yuba River Trail, makes this a handy base for day hikes, biking and wildlife viewing, and the campground's location on a state highway makes auto touring and quick resupplies straightforward. Facilities at Cal-Ida are straightforward and practical: each campsite comes with a picnic table and a campfire ring, vault toilets are available and there is drinking water on site. Sites are single-family and some are specifically reserved for tent camping only; the campground is operated and maintained by Tahoe National Forest, and reservations and fees follow Forest Service policies. Note the no-show policy: where a no-show is recorded at staffed facilities, a $20 no-show fee is assessed and the first night's recreation fee is forfeited; customers are urged to contact the facility if they are en route to avoid that charge. There is no change fee for extending or shortening reservations so long as the new dates overlap the original reservation, and changing to a different campsite on the same reservation at the same price carries no fee; departing early, however, can result in partial or full forfeiture of recreation fees.
