Goldledge Campground sits along the Kern Wild and Scenic River about 10 miles north of Kernville at roughly 3,200 feet elevation, on a stretch of open ground with limited shade. The sites occupy a gentle bench above steep canyon walls where gray pine, scrub oak, grasses and shrubs cling to the slopes and cottonwoods and willows line the riverbanks. The loop contains 36 single-family campsites in all 27 sites are sized to accommodate both RVs and tents, while 9 are tent-only and a number of sites are specifically designated as walk-to tent camping. Each site includes a picnic table and a campfire ring; the campground also provides vault toilets and potable drinking water. The Upper Kern River is the draw here: hiking, fishing, kayaking and rafting are popular from Goldledge into the surrounding corridor, and the Forest Service advises checking safety and permitting requirements and local outfitters before heading out. Beyond river recreation, Sequoia National Forest offers biking, horse camping and horseback riding, interpretive programs, overnight fire lookouts/cabins and off-highway vehicle opportunities, and day trips to Sequoia National Park or Giant Sequoia National Monument are common from this area. The Cannell Meadow National Recreation Trail begins near Kernville and climbs about 11.5 miles through mixed pine and fir to a historic early-20th-century ranger cabin, rewarding hikers with broad views of the Kern River valley. Goldledge is accessed from the Kernville/Lake Isabella corridor roughly a 45 60 minute drive from Bakersfield via Highway 178 and Highway 155 to Kernville, then north on Sierra Way (Mountain 99) and for the latest on fees, reservations, seasonal availability or facility-specific questions call (760) 376-1269 or consult the Sequoia National Forest recreation information.
