Lone Rock Campground sits on the western shore of Antelope Lake in the northern Sierra Nevada within Plumas National Forest and is one of three campgrounds in the Antelope Lake Recreation Area. The site is shaded by tall pine and fir at about 5,000 feet elevation, and the campsites spread along forested benches with several positioned directly on the water for easy lake views. The campground contains 85 sites in total, and all 85 are configured to accommodate both tents and RVs; each site can hold two vehicles, and additional vehicles may be left in nearby overflow parking at no extra charge. Basic amenities include picnic tables, metal campfire rings with grills, vault toilets and drinking water, and a small amphitheater on-site hosts educational programs during the season. Access to Antelope Lake is reached from Highway 89 near Crescent Mills follow Arlington Road toward Taylorsville, then continue on the route toward Antelope Lake via the Genesee and Indian Creek roads. The lake is the focal point for recreation here: anglers can fish for stocked trout, bass and catfish, and the shoreline and boat launch make swimming, boating and water-skiing straightforward options on calm days. Trails and forest roads around the lake provide plenty of options for hiking and mountain biking, and the Sunset Point Trail begins close to the campground for a nearby outing. Lone Rock's relatively remote setting draws people who want quieter water access and a more exploratory feel; the small town of Taylorsville is roughly 30 miles away if you need supplies, and the drive along Janesville Grade is noted for its wide views. Fees, reservation procedures, seasonal opening dates and road conditions are managed by the Forest Service and can change from year to year check current Plumas National Forest information before you go, and remember that at 5,000 feet weather and access can differ from lower-elevation areas.
