“The campground was nice, bathrooms clean, and the site we got was great and decently secluded. ”

HIGHWAY 70 AT SPANISH CREEK
Open in Google Maps ↗
Spanish Creek Campground sits right on Spanish Creek where Banish Creek and Indian Creek join to form the east branch of the North Fork Feather River, tucked into the Feather River Canyon at about 2,000 feet elevation. The creek runs through the site and creates a well-used swimming hole that draws families and swimmers in summer; the larger Feather River is within easy walking distance and holds a healthy supply of rainbow trout for anglers who want to wet a line. Nearby features that shape the visit include Indian Falls a few miles away (the mist there is said to have inspired the "Feather River" name), the Butterfly Valley Botanical Area close by, and the small high-Sierra town of Quincy southeast on Highway 70 where you can stretch your legs and explore local shops. The Mount Hough Ranger District is also just before Quincy and is a good first stop for maps and up-to-date area information. The campground has 27 single-family sites in total: 23 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and 4 tent-only sites. Each site comes with a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill; vault toilets and drinking water are provided, but there are no electrical or sewer hookups. Although the sites were recently upgraded, the area retains a straightforward, old-forest camping character. A full-service store with gas and phone service is available within about 10 miles. Access is from Highway 70 just east of the Highway 89 junction Spanish Creek Campground is immediately across the Spanish Creek bridge; from Oroville it's roughly 75 miles east on Highway 70, and from Quincy it's about an 8-mile drive west.
