“Gorgeous canyon with great hiking. The campground is basic and a few of the sites are a bit tight. But overall, it's a beautiful place to hang out and access the mountains.”
“A better description of sites is needed. As reserved #25 for or trailer. The angle was too steep to use. Manager not around to assist. Ended up in a site that worked for us, though challenging. Location excellent on the creek easy access to trail heads.”
“Nice campground. Our site had plenty of tree cover and was protected from the wind.”

Big Pine Creek Campground sits at about 7,700 feet on the lower slopes of Big Pine Canyon, with campsites set among Jeffrey pine, aspen and cottonwood and opening onto riparian meadows where Big Pine Creek runs cool and fish-rich. The site contains a total of 30 campsites: 26 that accommodate both RVs and tents and 4 tent-only sites. Sites accept up to six campers each, and a number of pitches are right on the creek for easy access to water and evening creek sounds. Facilities are basic but family- and pet-friendly vault toilets are available, and firewood is sold on site so plan to bring your own drinking water and any hookups or amenities you need. For up-to-date information about fees, reservations, seasonal openings and road conditions, contact the Inyo National Forest office or consult recreation.gov before you go. Recreation at the campground centers on water and alpine access: anglers find rainbow, brown and brook trout in Big Pine Creek and in nearby Big Pine Lakes, and the North Fork Trail climbs from the campground past waterfalls through manzanita, sage and Jeffrey pine up to the lakes and the Palisade Glacier. The glacial landscape above with Big Pine Lakes at roughly 10,000 feet, the Palisade Glacier, Middle Palisade Glacier and the Palisade Crest with peaks over 14,000 feet is part of the John Muir Wilderness and is the draw for longer hikes and mountaineering. A commercial pack station is nearby for horseback trips, and a local resort a short drive down the canyon offers a general store, pay showers and pond fishing if you need services beyond the campground. The campground is reached from the town of Big Pine by following Big Pine Canyon Road about 10 miles west from Highway 395 toward the end of the road, just past Glacier Lodge where the road crosses Big Pine Creek.
