White Spar Campground sits at about 5,641 feet, roughly 2.7 miles south of downtown Prescott on the east side of Highway 89, and offers a shaded, high-basin pine-and-oak setting that moderates summer heat and delivers cooler nights. The campground contains 45 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, with accessible sites available; each site includes a picnic table, a steel fire ring and/or concrete block grill, and either an established tent pad or tent area. There are no electrical or sewer hookups and no on-site dump station, so RV users should plan accordingly; potable water is supplied from nine hydrants but is turned off in the non-peak season, and the campground may close temporarily during snow events. Practical amenities include four vault restrooms, four trash dumpsters, and asphalt driveways, and reservations are accepted you can book through the availability link or by calling 1 (877) 444-6777, while general questions go to the Bradshaw Ranger District at 1 (928) 443-8000. Beyond the loop, White Spar is a convenient base for a wide range of Prescott National Forest recreation. Multiple interlocking trails near the campground make it easy to switch between hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding without driving, and the pine- and manzanita-covered landscape is productive for birdwatching and wildlife viewing. Within a short drive are Granite Basin Recreation Area (with a small lake known for channel catfish and bass), the Granite Mountain Wilderness, Lynx Lake's 55-acre boating and fishing opportunities, and Thumb Butte's popular hiking and viewpoints (note rock climbing on Thumb Butte is seasonally closed for peregrine falcon nesting). The campground's closeness to Prescott, Chino Valley and Prescott Valley also puts seasonal events, visitor centers and additional day-use lakes within easy reach, making White Spar a practical choice for campers who want both nearby trail access and quick town amenities.
