“This was our first visit here and we loved it! The grounds and facilities were clean. The camps were spaced far enough away so you couldn't see and barely hear neighbors. We loved the picnic table and firepits too! We will definitely be back!”
“Super clean restrooms, tall trees, private large flat camp sites (#21 is my favorite for 20ft trailer), great camp hosts. Nearby Watson Lake for kayaking and canoeing while Lynx Lake is low for dam repair. ”
“ A great place to say price is reasonable. The lake was a little lower this year. Hopefully it’ll be full next year. Lots of space nicely. We have stayed there six or seven times. ”

PRESCOTT NATIONAL FOREST
Open in Google Maps ↗
At 5,712 feet in the Prescott Basin, Hilltop Campground sits under a canopy of ponderosa pine, oak and manzanita that keeps summer days noticeably cooler than the low desert. The facility offers 26 campsites that accommodate both RVs and tents, each site furnished with a picnic table, steel fire ring and an established tent pad; universally accessible sites are also provided. There are a mix of asphalt driveways for pull-through and back-in parking, vault restrooms, six water faucets and five trash dumpsters, but no electrical or sewer hookups and no dump station, so expect a more self-contained camping experience. Hilltop operates on a summer season schedule; many sites can be reserved in advance through the national reservation line (1-877-444-6777) or the online availability system, and general campground questions can be directed to the Bradshaw Ranger District at 1-928-443-8000. The campground's location makes it a good base for a wide range of outdoor activities. Lynx Lake, just a short walk north, is a 55-acre hub for fishing, small-boat recreation and loop trails; Thumb Butte, with a summit near 6,515 feet, provides close-by hiking, jog routes and mountain-bike access (rock climbing is allowed seasonally, with closures for peregrine falcon nesting). A short drive reaches Granite Basin Recreation Area and its 5-acre lake, Granite Mountain and the Granite Mountain Wilderness, plus Alto Pit OHV area for off-highway riding. The Prescott area Prescott, Prescott Valley and Chino Valley is only minutes away and supplies additional day-use lakes (Watson, Willow, Goldwater), visitor services and year-round community events. Within Prescott National Forest visitors can expect opportunities for boating, hiking, horseback riding, picnicking, wildlife viewing and even overnight stays in certain forest cabins or lookouts, making Hilltop a practical jumping-off point for varied outdoor days.
