“The Camp Hosts were wonderful. Our stay couldn't have been better. Hope to do it again soon!!!”
“The campground was immaculate, by far the cleanest bathroom I have ever used while camping. The store is well stocked with a wide variety of items and staff were friendly. Camp hosts were kind and informative, overall this has been our best experience at a campground. ”

Grayling Campground sits along the shore of 450-acre Big Lake in the White Mountains at about 9,000 feet, surrounded by a mix of ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, spruce and stands of aspen that give the sites plenty of shade and a true high-country feel. The small loop contains 21 campsites that accommodate both RVs and tents; a few sites open onto partial views of the lake but none are directly on the water. On-site amenities are simple and practical: flush toilets in the campground, with hot showers and an RV dump station about one mile away, and a nearby store offering gas, food, boat rentals and firewood. Summer days are generally cool compared with the lower desert, but nights can be chilly and occasional afternoon thunderstorms occur bring warm layers and rain protection and call (928) 537-8888 for the latest facility information, fees and reservation guidance. Recreation here centers on Big Lake's trout fishing rainbow, cutthroat, brook and Apache trout are the most sought-after species but the surrounding Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest expands the options considerably. Trails and forest roads around the lake are used for hiking, mountain biking, birding and wildlife viewing, and the Big Lake visitor center occasionally offers educational programs for curious campers. Beyond the immediate recreation area, the national forest supports a wide range of activities including horse camping and horseback riding, off-highway vehicle travel, picnicking and overnight stays in fire lookouts or cabins elsewhere on the forest. Grayling is reached from the Pinetop area by heading east on Highway 260 and then south on Highway 273 to the Big Lake entrance; once inside the recreation area, Grayling is roughly two miles in on the left.
