Winn Campground sits at about 8,500 feet in a dense stand of pine and aspen, with several sites edging a broad meadow where elk often feed at dusk. It's a practical base for anglers and hikers: the campground is close to the East and West Forks of the Little Colorado River and within easy driving distance of Lee Valley Reservoir (stocked Apache trout) and Big Lake, and Mt. Baldy's trailheads are nearby for those aiming for Arizona's tallest White Mountains peak at 11,420 feet. Summer days are typically comfortable because of the elevation, though expect afternoon thunderstorms from late June through August and cool nights year-round. The surrounding Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest offers a wide range of activities hiking, biking, horseback riding and horse camping, off-highway vehicle routes, picnicking, wildlife viewing, and fishing and boating on nearby lakes and the town of Springerville is the nearest service hub. Practical details matter here: Winn provides a total of 63 campsites (site type breakdown: 63 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites) and also offers two group sites that can each accommodate up to 50 people, making it a common choice for scout groups and family reunions. Sites accommodate both tents and RVs, but there are water restrictions RVs must arrive with their water tanks filled because campground water is limited; drinking water is available only in limited quantities on site and you can top up at Big Lake about 10 miles away. Firewood is sold at the campground, and for facility-specific questions you can call (928) 537-8888. Access is straightforward from Show Low: follow Highway 260 southeast toward Springerville, then turn onto Highway 273 and continue until you reach the Winn area the campground lies off that route within the White Mountains.
