“Spot 13 is probably the best stop on the outlet side, secluded and quiet, other than the occasional car passing. You aren't looking at another camper, just a creek and a wooded area. Cell phone reception is very poor, but it was nice to disconnect.”

Outlet Area Park sits on the south side of Blue Mountain Lake near the small community of Waveland, about 17 miles east of Booneville and just downstream of Blue Mountain Dam. The campground's 38 sites are all configured to accommodate both RVs and tents, and most are watered frontage while the remainder are a short walk from the river channel; shaded spots and stretches of cypress and mixed hardwoods give many sites a leafy, sheltered feel. Utilities are straightforward sites have electricity and water hookups and the layout includes three multi-family sites for larger groups. Note: the site numbers on the pavement have been recently renumbered and the changes are reflected in the reservation system, so check current maps when you arrive. Of the 38 sites, 26 are reservable and 12 are kept first-come, first-served; a nearby fish cleaning station and a small playground add practical conveniences for anglers and families. Blue Mountain Lake is more than a backdrop it's the engine for activities here. The river channel that flows through Outlet Area Park offers prime bank fishing for crappie, largemouth and white bass, bream and catfish, and the lake supports boating and water-sports for people who bring boats or launch elsewhere on the lake. Forests and wetlands around the shore open opportunities for wildlife viewing, hunting in season, hiking and picnicking; a cypress-lined swimming area at nearby Waveland Park is an easy side trip for families. On the west end of the lake the J. Perry Mikels Blue Mountain Special Use Area hosts a nationally known bird dog field trial complex, and its training facilities are available to the public. Mount Magazine State Park and stretches of Ozark and Ouachita National Forest lie within easy driving distance, making Outlet Area a practical base for both water-based recreation and exploring the higher ridges of Arkansas's tallest mountain.
