Piney Bay Campground sits on the western shore of Dardanelle Lake in western Arkansas, the broad reservoir of the Arkansas River that stretches across roughly 40,000 acres and is backed by wooded hills between the Ozark and Ouachita National Forests. The campground is easy to find near London, Arkansas, just off US-64 and State Route 359. There are 91 campsites in all: 90 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and a single tent-only site. These are arranged in a mix of loops Loop A (5 sites), B (29), D (4), E (14), F (4) and the largest, Loop G (34) and the park also advertises over 20 walk-in sites for people looking to leave vehicles behind. Of the total, 68 sites are listed as reservable and those reservable sites come with electric hookups; check the park's reservation system for availability windows and fee information before you go. Amenities at Piney Bay are focused on lake recreation and family camping: two boat ramps and a swim beach make launching and cooling off straightforward, and a large group picnic shelter, multiple picnic spots, a playground and hot showers cover the basic comforts after a day on the water. The lake supports strong fishing for white bass, largemouth bass, bream, crappie and large catfish, so anglers will find plenty to target from shore or a boat. Beyond swimming, boating and fishing, the Dardanelle Lake area offers biking, wildlife viewing (the river valley is a favorite wintering area for bald eagles), environmental education opportunities, water sports and concession services, and nearby Bona Dea Trails and Sanctuary provides nearly 86 acres of wetlands and a six-mile trail system to explore. Bring standard lake-side camping gear, plan ahead for reservable electrical sites if you need hookups, and download the campground map or check the park's website before travel to confirm any seasonal details.
