Carter Cove Campground sits on the shore of Nimrod Lake between the Ouachita and Ozark Mountains, offering shaded, pine-fringed campsites with direct access to a swimming beach and a boat ramp. The campground contains 34 campsites in total 33 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and one tent-only site and includes a large day-use group picnic shelter and a playground for families. Sites are described as spacious and modern, and the immediate landscape reflects the reservoir's origins: Nimrod Dam, completed in 1942 on the Fourche LaFave River, created the lake and the surrounding 21,000 acres that now support this recreation area. Carter Cove is easy to reach from the Plainview area via Route 60 and lies close to State Highway 7, putting Petit Jean State Park, Mount Nebo State Park and Hot Springs National Park within a reasonable day-trip distance. The lake is a strong draw for anglers expect catfish, bluegill, bass and crappie and boating is a major activity with 11 boat ramps around Nimrod; note that water skiing and tubing are only allowed from the tip of Carden Point east toward the dam because areas to the west are considered hazardous. Campground and lake activities include boating, camping, fishing, hiking, picnicking, playground use, water sports and wildlife viewing, and you may see white-tailed deer, wild turkey, quail, squirrel, rabbit, fox, mink, black bear, dove and waterfowl; seasonal hunting is permitted across much of the lake except in or adjacent to recreation areas. Practical details such as fees, reservation rules and seasonal availability change over time, so check with the campground's managing office or official website before you go to confirm current policies and to secure a site.
