Glenn B ★ 1 · Oct 2025Can very much see how the decrease in funding is affecting our cherished public parks and places. Facilities here were far less desirable than past visits. And, we were told to vacate a day early due to govt shutdown. Very disappointing as it was a perfect week weatherwise and we were enjoying that fully.
Alex B ★ 4 · May 2025The office crew were very friendly upon our arrival and even drove us to show us our site to give us an idea of which way we wanted to go on bringing our trailer to the site. The park seemed cleaned and well maintained, as well as having paved pads which is a bonus. They had cut down some trees prior to our arrival, and that's the primary reason for me taking a star off of the review is there was sawdust everywhere and it continually made a mess during our stay. The other thing to note about this specific site is that the pad is very short, and it is steep on all sides except the small landscaped area with the picnic table. This made set up and tear down a larger pain than usual, but is something that can be worked around. Another thing to note and may be a positive for some and a negative for others is that cell phone service is non-existent in this area. Other than right by the dam, you will likely have to drive miles to get actual cell service. That's with both AT&T and Mint Mobile (T-Mobile).
April T ★ 5 · May 2025We had a great time camping at River Road! Our multi-family campsite was spacious and provided plenty of room for everyone to spread out and enjoy themselves. The campground was peaceful, and the host was incredibly friendly and helpful, which made the experience even better. The only minor downside was that only one shower was working in each of the restrooms, but it didn’t take away from the overall experience. We’d definitely come back and recommend it to others looking for a relaxing group getaway in nature.

River Road Campground sits on the banks of the Fourche LaFave River at Nimrod Dam, where stands of tall, sweet-scented pines shade 21 modern campsites set into the forested shorelines between the Ouachita and Ozark Mountains. Sites are divided between two loops 15 sites in the River Road Loop and 6 in the Project Point Loop and the campground layout is geared toward families and mixed groups: 20 sites are configured to accommodate both RVs and tents while one site is tent-only. Practical on-site amenities include a boat ramp that puts you straight onto the river, a playground for kids, and a large day-use group picnic shelter for gatherings; the lake and its roughly 21,000 acres of surrounding public land offer a broad, undeveloped feeling despite the modern campsite facilities. River Road is easily reached from State Highway 7, about nine miles south of Ola, and lies within easy driving distance of regional destinations such as Petit Jean State Park, Mount Nebo State Park and Hot Springs National Park. Recreation at River Road reflects Nimrod Lake's strengths: fishing is a major draw with good populations of crappie, largemouth bass, catfish and bream, and boating, water skiing and tubing are popular where conditions permit. There are 11 boat ramps scattered around the lake to distribute launch points, but a safety restriction confines skiing and tubing to the stretch from the tip of Carden Point eastward toward the dam because waters west of that point are hazardous. Away from the water you can hike, picnic, watch wildlife and let kids use the playground; the area is home to white-tailed deer, eastern wild turkey, bobwhite quail, rabbit, fox, mink, black bear, dove and many waterfowl. Seasonal hunting is allowed in the forested lands around the lake, except within or adjacent to recreation areas. For fee schedules, reservations and seasonal access, contact the campground directly before you go, since policies and availability can change.
