“It was beautiful and clean. I called the forest service about the broken but functional stove. Glad that people are packing out their garbage! ”
“Fantastic cabin, location, maintenance. The only thing is the stove door handle is a little broken, but still functions perfectly. ”

Shelikof Cabin sits on the west coast of Kruzof Island about 20 miles northwest of Sitka, occupying a small clearing at the edge of spruce-hemlock forest with direct views down to a broad sandy Shelikof Bay beach. This is a remote, single rental unit the site listing shows one campsite (TOTAL CAMPSITES: 1) and is identified as both RV and tent site types available year-round as weather permits. Access requires careful planning: helicopters or wheel planes can land on the beach at low tide, or you can take a roughly 45-minute boat ride from Sitka to Mud Bay and then follow the old Kruzof Island Road and Shelikof Trail for about 7 miles across meadows and occasional sloughs; ATV travel is permitted only as far as Iris Meadows (about 1.4 miles from the cabin). Trail crossings are tide-dependent and trail markers can be obscured at sloughs, so bring navigation aids and be prepared for tidal timing; brown bears frequent the area, and visitors are responsible for their own safety and travel arrangements. First-time users should contact the Sitka Ranger District at 907-747-6671 for current conditions and directions, and consult USGS Sitka A-5/A-6 maps or the Tongass National Forest recreation pages for detailed maps and updates. Note the reservation policy: only one change to start or end dates is allowed per booking; further adjustments require canceling and rebooking. The cabin itself is a 16 x 16-foot wood A-frame built in 1991 that can sleep up to eight people, with a double bunk on the main level and an upstairs loft reached by a vertical ladder. Inside you'll find a wood stove for heat, a table with benches, a cooking counter and cupboard, broom and an axe or splitting maul; an outhouse sits nearby. The cabin does not supply mattresses, cooking utensils, stoves, lanterns, or toiletries, so bring sleeping bags and pads, pots, pans and utensils, a cooking stove and fuel, toilet paper, garbage bags, a fire extinguisher, fire starter and rain gear and boots for wet conditions. Water is available from a spring about a quarter mile away but must be treated before use, so many parties choose to bring their own water. Recreation at the site centers on beachcombing, photography, hiking the coastal trails and shoreline, and fishing for Dolly Varden and coho and pink salmon in nearby streams (check the Alaska Department of Fish and Game for permit and season information).
