Blue Meadow sits at about 1,860 feet in a wooded valley along Anthony Creek, where the creek's "Blue Hole" attracts swimmers and anglers after trout. The campground faces Round Mountain across the water and is a good jumping-off point for quieter hikes: Anthony Creek Trail threads a narrow rhododendron-filled valley and is popular with birders, while the nearby Blue Bend Loop Trail passes three scenic overlooks. The larger Big Draft Wilderness is within easy reach for anyone wanting more remote backcountry miles. Wildlife is a regular part of the experience here expect to see white-tailed deer, wild turkey and smaller forest carnivores that are common in the Monongahela National Forest and the Greenbrier Resort and the summer West Virginia State Fair are roughly 15 and 30 minutes away by car, respectively. Blue Meadow is managed as a single reservable group campground (the official campsite count is one reservable unit suitable for both RVs and tents) and carries a $75 per night fee; if that group site is not reserved it may be opened as overflow, at which time sites labeled 1 17 can be taken on a first-come, first-served basis the group area itself is laid out into 17 numbered spots including four walk-to sites. Facilities are basic but serviceable: picnic tables, grills, lantern posts, trash collection and vault toilets are provided, but there is no drinking water on-site (blue Bend Campground is the nearest water source). The group site can accommodate recreational vehicles, but there are no hookups or potable water, so plan to arrive self-contained and bring drinking water and any other supplies you need. Check the Forest Service reservation system for current opening dates and any seasonal restrictions before you go.
