East Kachess Group Campground sits on the eastern shore of Kachess Lake in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, surrounded by tall conifers and high ridgelines that give the site a quiet, secluded character. There is a single group site (total campsites: 1), configured to accept both RVs and tents, and sized to hold up to 100 people and 25 vehicles a good option for family reunions, scout groups, or multi-family outings that need one large shared space. Facilities are straightforward and functional: picnic tables, metal campfire rings with grills for cooking, and vault toilets. The campground is accessed from Interstate 90 near exit 70 via West Sparks Road onto Kachess Dam Road/Forest Road #4818 (the campground sits about 5 miles from the freeway on the lake's eastern shore); because management, fees, and reservation rules can change, contact the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest or recreation.gov for current information on fees, reservation requirements, seasonal openings, and road conditions before you go. The lake itself defines much of what you can do here: Kachess Lake is a managed reservoir used for irrigation, and anglers commonly fish for rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, and kokanee salmon from shore or by boat. In summer and early fall the campground works well as a base for swimming, mountain biking, and day hikes several trails are only a short drive away, and a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail is reachable from nearby trailheads for longer day trips or through-hiking ambitions. Wildlife viewing is good along the shoreline and in the surrounding forest; deer, porcupine, native fish, and migratory birds are frequently seen, and more remote parts of the forest support species such as northern spotted owls and gray wolves. For a wider range of activities, the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest offers biking, climbing, horseback riding, OHV use, winter sports, hunting, and more, so plan your itinerary around both the group-camp experience and the broader recreation opportunities in the area.
