Salmon La Sac Campground sits at about 2,300 feet along the Cle Elum and Cooper rivers inside the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, roughly 80 miles east of Seattle via I-90 and about 19 miles north of Cle Elum on WA-903. The site is ringed by mixed conifer forest and underbrush of wild blueberries, and it functions as a hub for both summer and winter outdoor activity: in summer and early fall you'll find hiking, fishing, swimming, horseback riding and mountain biking close at hand, while winter brings clear-sky snow conditions ideal for cross-country skiing. Anglers target rainbow and cutthroat trout as well as kokanee salmon in nearby waters, and the Waptus River Trail starts within walking distance a 3-mile stroll brings you to Hour Creek and another 6 miles takes you to Waptus Lake with views of Summit Chief Mountain. The Pacific Crest Trail also passes nearby, and Salmon La Sac Sno-Park (groomed December March) provides access to ski trails that run through the campground area; note that snowmobiles are allowed in the general area but are not permitted inside the campground itself. Wildlife sightings are common deer, porcupine, native fish and many migratory birds share the surrounding undeveloped country. The campground contains 66 sites that accommodate both tents and RVs, and 40 of those sites are reservable; each site includes a picnic table and a campfire ring with a grill. Amenities are basic but practical: drinking water, trash collection and vault toilets are provided. Salmon La Sac is closed to camping from October through April, and there is an $8 fee for extra vehicles. Reservation and cancellation rules should be reviewed before arrival: cancellations made up to two days before your start date incur a $10 fee; cancellations the day before or on arrival carry a $10 service charge plus forfeiture of the first night's fee (one-night reservations are nonrefundable); no-shows are assessed a $20 service fee and lose the first night's rate. Refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days after your reservation ends; card refunds go back to the original account, while cash or check refunds are issued by Treasury check and can take 6 8 weeks.
