Jones Bay sits low in a ravine where the upper Columbia opens into a wide bay on Lake Roosevelt, the shore framed by steep, scoured rock and a brush-steppe of bitter antelope brush and sage. The campground surface is mostly gravel and packed dirt with sparse vegetation, giving it a dry, desert-like feel rather than a forested one. You can reach Jones Bay by boat there's a small launch and a dock right at the site or by car via a narrow, sandy three-mile spur off Jones Bay Road that ties back to Sherman Draw/US-2; from Spokane it's roughly a 77-mile drive west. Because the site is relatively remote and unstaffed, it can be easy to miss (note there is another Jones Bay at nearby Steamboat Rock State Park), so plan your route ahead and call the park office for general information at (509) 754-7889 if you need help. Jones Bay is reservation-only and intentionally primitive: the loop has nine campsites in total, seven of which accommodate both RVs and tents and two that are tent-only, and each site includes a picnic table and a fire pit. There's no potable water on site, so campers must bring their own drinking water and be self-sufficient; the campground is largely gravel and compacted dirt with minimal hookups or amenities. Anglers and boaters will find easy access to fishing from either the shore or the water, and swimming, hiking and general boating are the nearby draws of Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area. Reservations are handled exclusively through recreation.gov; peak season runs May September at $23 per night, with off-peak (October April) rates at $11.50. Cancellation changes must also go through recreation.gov: if you cancel the day before or the day of arrival you will pay a $10 service fee and forfeit the first night's use fee (not to exceed the total paid); a single-night reservation canceled on arrival day forfeits the entire amount paid and is not subject to an additional service fee.
