Rebecca P ★ 5 · Oct 2025We stayed after the busy season, and so had almost complete privacy. Loved it. It's all boondocking so come prepared to either go without electricity or create your own. Our site was mostly sunny so we did a little of both over the week we were there. Big fires were pushing smoke into the area so had to supplement with generator. Lots of bird watching from our site. Eagles in the morning. Flickers and juncos all day. Dozens of others that may have been migrating through. Not a lot for hiking. We did day trips around the area. Potable water at the dump station. there is a fee even for campers to use the dump station. You can pay online while there. We enjoyed it, but some will find it too remote and rough. There are other choices with hook ups so do those if that's you.
Donna M ★ 5 · Sep 2025Clean,quiet and close to the water. We spent 2 nights listening to the coyotes along the ravines. Saw an eagle and osprey! On our last morning there were 4 dear in camp. Just beautiful. The camp site we chose had morning sun and afternoon shade. Potable water nearby. Really was a great spot for tent camping!
Pam W ★ 4 · Sep 2025Nice campground, day use is clean and very green, campground was brown and very dry, not surprising as we were there the end of August. For a fee there is a dump station with potable water for filling a trailer tank. some of the pull-through sites seemed a little tight with trees on both sides.

Fort Spokane Campground sits along the shoreline of Lake Roosevelt where the Columbia and Spokane rivers meet, planted among Ponderosa pines and scrub that frame a landscape shaped by Ice Age floods and later human stories traders, trappers, American Indians, settlers and the soldiers who manned the fort across the road. The former guardhouse directly across from the campground houses a seasonal visitor center and small museum (open Memorial Day through Labor Day, with weekend hours published during recent summers) and an interpretive trail around the historic grounds that is available year-round for a self-guided tour. Birding is a major draw here: Hawk Creek, a few miles away, is a prime vantage point for peregrine falcons, bald eagles, ospreys, herons and a variety of finches, and the campground itself is a good base for watching water- and shore-birds. Anglers will find steady fishing right off the lake and at the launch walleye, bass, rainbow trout and salmon are commonly targeted while swimmers and boaters use the accessible shoreline; the Fort Spokane boat launch remains open through winter and the shore near the campground typically does not freeze. Practical details matter: Fort Spokane has 68 individual sites in total 63 sites configured for both RVs and tents and five tent-only sites distributed across three loops (Back Loop 35 sites, Middle Loop 22 sites, Front Loop 11 sites). The campground is open year-round but is reservation-only through recreation.gov (no first-come sites), and drinking water is turned off for winter months, so plan accordingly; a convenience store and gas station are nearby for basic supplies. The location is unstaffed; for general information call the Lake Roosevelt office at (509) 754-7889. All reservation changes and cancellations must be handled via recreation.gov; cancellations made the day before or on the day of arrival incur a $10 service fee and forfeit the first night's use fee (not to exceed the amount originally paid), and one-night reservations canceled will forfeit the entire payment. To reach Fort Spokane from the Spokane area expect roughly an hour's drive using State Highways 2 and 25 toward Davenport and then north to the campground.
