“Beautiful site! Some gravel around the fire pit area would be helpful as the clay becomes a mess when it gets wet.”

Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area

Hunters Group Site sits along the northern shore of Lake Roosevelt in a thick Ponderosa pine stand that keeps the campsites cool and shaded through the summer. The campground itself does not offer a direct view of the water, but a beach and a year-round boat launch are located inside the facility, making the lake easy to reach for fishing, boating, and swimming when temperatures rise. Lake Roosevelt a 130-mile stretch of the Columbia River formed by the Grand Coulee Dam supports walleye, bass, rainbow trout and salmon, with a limited season now open for sturgeon; hunting is allowed in specific areas of the park, which is why this spot is often used by organized hunting parties as well as groups of anglers. Wildlife sightings are common: expect to see deer, elk, moose and bald eagles moving through the shoreline and forest, and interpretive programs in the recreation area can help you connect the landscape to the human histories of American Indians, traders, trappers and dam builders who have lived here. The facility offers three group campsites that accommodate up to 25 people per booking; each site is configured to accept both RVs and tents and includes a fire pit. Drinking water and flush toilets are provided seasonally, and a campground host lives on site to answer questions; otherwise the location is relatively remote, with the small town of Hunters nearby for supplies. Reservations for the group sites are taken March through November and the overnight fee is $55 per night for 1 25 people; all changes and cancellations must be made through recreation.gov, and cancellations made fewer than 14 days before arrival incur a $10 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night's use fee. The site is unstaffed for walk-in inquiries for general information call the main office at (509) 754-7889 and the most direct regional access is via Highway 2 west of Spokane and then north on Highway 25 toward the Hunters area.
