“We had a reservation but arrived pretty late. There was no paper at the campsite we reserved. Luckely there were only two other campers so we didn’t have any issues”

Hawk Creek Campground sits back from the main shoreline of Lake Roosevelt in a narrow ravine where Hawk Creek drops over a small waterfall before it joins the Columbia River, giving the loop of campsites a quietly wooded, almost private feeling despite the campground's popularity. The site layout is compact 20 individual campsites total and each site is listed as suitable for both RVs and tents, so you'll see a mix of small trailers and traditional tents tucked into the creekside benches. A courtesy dock and a small boat ramp at the camp provide direct access to Lake Roosevelt for boating, fishing, kayaking, canoeing and swimming from the shore or craft; birdwatching and short hikes through the ravine to the confluence where Hawk Creek meets the Columbia are the immediate on-site activities, while longer paddling and fishing opportunities extend out onto the upper Columbia. Fort Spokane Visitor Center and the historic fort grounds are about 8.5 miles away and offer seasonal museum hours (Memorial Day through Labor Day) plus year-round self-guided trails, making it easy to pair a history stop with a day on the water. Practical details matter here: Hawk Creek is open year-round but is not plowed in winter, the location is unstaffed, and there is no cell service, so reservations must be made in advance through recreation.gov this is a reservation-only campground with no first-come sites. All changes and cancellations also go through recreation.gov; if you cancel the day before or on the day of arrival you will pay a $10 service fee and forfeit the first night's use fee (not to exceed the total paid), and a single-night reservation canceled on arrival day forfeits the entire amount paid. For general information you can call the park's main office at (509) 754-7889. Because the campground is small and often booked, plan ahead for launch times and campsite selection if you want the quieter creekside loop or a spot nearest the dock.
