About

The Dalles Campground sits right on the banks of the White River in Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, with sites set beneath a mixed forest canopy and many pitched at the water's edge for easy access to river views and angling. The loop contains 41 campsites total, each designed to accommodate both tents and RVs; sites are described as "standard" and are widely spaced for privacy. Every site includes a picnic table and a campfire ring with a grill, and vault toilets and potable water are available throughout the campground. A covered historic picnic shelter built by the Civilian Conservation Corps is a focal point near the entrance and can be reserved in advance or used on a first-come, first-served basis; the half-mile John Muir Nature Trail, a barrier-free interpretive walk, begins at that same shelter. At the west end of the loop you'll find the "Big Tree," a roughly 700-year-old Douglas fir that marks the start of the Dalles River View trail, and the White River below supports fly fishing for several salmon and trout species. Recreation at Dalles centers on hiking and fishing, but the broader Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest offers many activities from auto touring and biking to boating, horseback riding, winter sports, and wildlife viewing and nearby national parks (North Cascades and Mount Rainier) add more trails and interpretive programs. Wildlife in the area can include mountain goats, coyotes, pine marten, migratory birds and native fish, so pack appropriate gear and practice food storage and river safety. The campground is reached by following Highway 410 southeast from Enumclaw for about 26 miles toward Mount Rainier; specific fees, seasonal openings and other access details can change, so check Recreation.gov or call the campground for facility-specific information at (360) 386-8214. Note also the reservation policy: once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager can modify that reservation.
