The Needles Campground sits in the southeast corner of Canyonlands National Park at about 4,900 feet, amid stands of Utah juniper and pinyon pine and the colorful spires of Cedar Mesa Sandstone that give the district its name. The site is small and intentionally simple: there are 11 campsites total, seven designated for both RVs and tents and four tent-only sites. Each individual site includes a picnic table, a fire ring and access to drinking water and flush toilets; there are no electric hookups, no showers and no dump station, and the maximum vehicle length allowed is 28 feet. Loop A operates on a first-come, first-served basis while Loop B individual sites can be reserved up to six months in advance for the spring and fall peak windows (March 15 May and September October); a seasonal campground host is usually present in Loop A during spring and fall. Individual campsite fees are $20 for 1 10 people. If you need larger group space, the district offers multiple group sites (Split Top, Wooden Shoe and Dutch Oven) with tiered fees for example, Loop A group sites range from $90 for 11 20 people up to $225 for 41 50 people, Wooden Shoe charges $70 $115 depending on group size, and Split Top is $70 for 11 15 people so plan and reserve those separately. Recreation here is centered on foot and four-wheel-drive access to a high-desert maze of canyons and spires: trails and rough roads lead from the campground toward Confluence Overlook, Druid Arch, the Joint Trail and Chesler Park, and the broader park supports auto touring, biking, climbing, horseback riding, paddling and river trips. The Needles is remote expect no cell coverage and limited services and the only paved access is Utah Highway 211, which ends at the district roughly 35 miles west off US-191 (about 1.5 hours south of Moab and 1.25 hours north of Monticello). There are no lights on park roads or campsites, so arriving before dark and carrying printed directions is strongly advised. Be aware of the reservation policies: cancellations the day before or on the arrival day incur a $10 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night's fee (one-night reservations forfeit the entire amount), no-shows are charged a $20 service fee and the first night's fee and the site is released after 10:00 a.m. on the day after your scheduled arrival, and early departures may be eligible for partial refunds only if you notify the facility.
