Green River Campground sits at about 4,750 feet on a broad bench beside the Green River, where Fremont cottonwoods and sagebrush dot a mostly open landscape and the highly eroded face of Split Mountain looms to the north. The campground contains 79 sites total, arranged in three loops Loop A with 20 sites, Loop B with 31, and Loop C with 28 and every site is designated for both RVs and tents. Each campsite includes a picnic table and a metal fire pit, and the campground provides drinking water and flush toilets. There are no showers, electrical or water hookups, or RV dump stations, and RVs cannot fill potable water tanks on site, so overland or self-contained travelers should plan accordingly. The Split Mountain Boat Ramp is a short distance away, and the Quarry Exhibit Hall where you can see dinosaur bones still encased in rock and more than 1,500 fossils exposed in place is roughly five miles downriver. The campground is a practical base for the wide range of activities in Dinosaur National Monument: you can launch paddling and fishing trips from the nearby ramp, watch commercial and private river rafters come off the Green, or use the site as a stopping point for auto touring, biking, hiking, and wildlife viewing across the monument's 210,000+ acres. The park maintains two visitor centers (one in Utah, one in Colorado), and river trips commercial or private require advance arrangements or permits; the Yampa River season in particular fluctuates with snowmelt and has a shorter window. Note important reservation rules: reserved campsites are held only until check-out time on the day after your scheduled arrival, and failure to arrive or cancel by that time may result in forfeited use fees and a $20 service fee for a no-show. To reach the campground, head north from US-40 via Utah State Route 149 out of Jensen, Utah, and expect mostly sunny campsites with a mix of shaded spots offering views of Split Mountain.
