Pelican Lake Campground sits at about 4,800 feet on UT-88 roughly 25 miles southwest of Vernal, inside the broader Ouray Valley Recreation Area that follows the Green River between Vernal and Roosevelt. The lake is the campground's main draw: anglers still come for bluegill and largemouth bass, a fishery with a long local reputation, and birders find spring mornings full of waterfowl tending their young. Beyond the shoreline, the Ouray Valley offers hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and OHV trails, and the nearby Ouray National Wildlife Refuge along the Green River supports a wide variety of species for those who want to extend a day at the lake into longer wildlife watching or trail outings. The campground is small and straightforward: 13 campsites in total 11 tent sites and 2 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents with basic amenities that include picnic tables, metal fire rings and vault toilets; you must bring your own water. Sites are first-come, first-served and you must be physically present to pay and claim a site the same day no advance reservations though the recreation.gov mobile app's Scan & Pay option is supported and there's an iron ranger on site for cash or check. Single campsites are $10 and group camping is listed at $35. A note for anglers: Pelican Lake's fish population was altered by a carp invasion in the late 2000s, and state and federal agencies along with local anglers have developed a management plan to address long-term recovery, so fishing conditions can vary year to year.
