What guests say

Verbatim from guest reviews on Recreation.gov ↗ (152 reviews, ★ 5.0). Not written or edited by us.

“Am Ankunftstag abends mussten wir den Host suchen, da unser Name nicht auf dem Reservierungsschild stand und wir dadurch etwas irritiert waren. Hat sich alles geklärt, alles gut. Platz geräumig. Nahe der Strasse, somit etwas Verkehrslärm, aber nicht schlimm.”

About

Devils Canyon Campground sits at about 7,400 feet on the lower slopes of the Abajo Mountains in Manti-La Sal National Forest, roughly 13 miles south of Monticello and 9 miles north of Blanding along US-191, with the turn to the site about a quarter-mile off the highway. The site ring is framed by ponderosa, pinyon and juniper, which provide patchy shade and a classic high-desert mountain feel; daytime temperatures in summer are warm while evenings cool noticeably. Wildlife is part of the experience here expect to see songbirds, squirrels and chipmunks, and you may spot mule deer or, more rarely, black bear. Several miles of off-road vehicle trails run through the Abajos and the nearby Camp Jackson/Wagon Wheel Trail is a common draw for riders and high-clearance vehicles; the Abajo Loop State Scenic Backway also passes the campground, climbing from redrock canyons to peaks topping 10,000 feet and offering multiple overlooks (the byway is fine for passenger cars from late spring through fall but is not recommended for large RVs). The campground contains 42 total campsites, and all 42 sites are set up to accommodate both tents and RVs, with paved parking spurs, picnic tables and metal fire rings at each site. Vault toilets are onsite; potable water is available seasonally from June through September, and showers can be found about eight miles south in Blanding. Firewood is limited, and there is a 14-day stay limit. Sites #1 5 and #8 16 have paved areas around the fire pit and picnic table that meet accessibility standards, while sites #6 and #7 require a short trail from the parking spur to the paved camping area and are not considered accessible. Beyond the campground, the forest supports a wide range of activities biking, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, OHV use, wildlife viewing and winter sports among them and popular destinations such as Canyonlands, Arches and Mesa Verde National Parks, Dark Canyon Wilderness, Edge of the Cedars State Park and Lake Powell are all within a day-trip distance. For current fees, reservation options and road conditions (especially if you're bringing a large RV), check with the Manti-La Sal National Forest office before you go.
