“The campsite was really nice — clean, well-kept, and had water and trash bins placed at different locations. We had such a great time enjoying by the campfire, and later fell asleep to the calming sound of the river. It was peaceful and just perfect.”

Riverside at Detroit Campground sits along the North Fork Santiam River at about 2,400 feet elevation, and the approach is lined with mature cedars and Douglas fir that give the loop road a forested, secluded feel. The campground is split into two characterful sections: the southeast (upriver) side has smaller, more private sites perched on a bluff with river views, while the northwest (downriver) loop is more open with partial shade. There are 36 total sites 34 that accommodate both RVs and tents and 2 tent-only sites and 20 of the sites can be reserved in advance. Drinking-water spigots are located through the campground, waste gray-water disposal is provided, and firewood is sold on site, so you can travel light on fuel but should plan for basic campsite self-sufficiency. Outdoor options reach beyond the banks of the Santiam: anglers can fish for rainbow trout right from the river, and several nearby trail systems offer day hikes and mountain-biking routes. The Coffin Mountain Trail Area (including Coffin Lookout and Bugaboo Ridge) is close by, while longer routes such as the Mt. Jefferson Pamelia Lake Trail Area and the Minto Mountain Trail offer more challenging outings. The Marion Forks Fish Hatchery, along Marion and Horn Creeks, is an easy side trip to see hatchery operations and local fish species. Riverside sits within the North Santiam Travel Corridor of the Willamette National Forest a forest that spans about 1.6 million acres on the west slopes of the Cascades where broader recreation opportunities include biking, boating, horse camping, OHV use, winter sports, and wildlife viewing; check forest regulations and seasonal access before you go.
