“No water available for years since the fires yet the prices keep going up. They cut down a lot of old growth trees in the campground and just left the slash piles making for dangerous burn piles this used to be a perfect place but they have seriously damaged it. ”

Breitenbush Campground sits along the banks of the Breitenbush River in the western reaches of the Willamette National Forest, where the steady sound of running water threads through conifers and stands of riparian plants that separate the sites for privacy. The campground contains a total of 29 campsites; all 29 both RV sites and tent sites accommodate either rigs or tents, and most sites offer sweeping views of the river. Eighteen of those sites are reservable while the remaining 11 operate on a first-come, first-served basis, so plan ahead if you need a specific site. Each campsite includes a picnic table and a grill, drinking-water spigots are spaced through the loop, and vault toilets are easily reached from every site. For current fees, seasonal opening dates and any road or fire restrictions, check the Willamette National Forest recreation page before you go. The river itself is the campground's main draw: anglers commonly catch rainbow trout, and shallow stretches are suitable for wading on warmer days. Beyond the river corridor, the Willamette National Forest offers about 1,700 miles of trails with many low-elevation, easy-access routes that can be used year-round as well as higher, wilderness trails for longer outings. If you want more water recreation, Detroit Lake is within regional driving distance and supports boating, water skiing and kayaking. The broader forest also supports activities such as biking, horse camping, OHV riding on designated routes, wildlife viewing and winter sports, so Breitenbush makes a practical base for a variety of outings. The campground is accessed from Detroit, Oregon: follow Forest Service Road 46 north about 9.3 miles from the intersection with State Route 22 to reach the site.
