Cove Creek Campground sits at about 1,600 feet on the shore of Detroit Lake, tucked among tall Douglas firs that break the wind and give many sites a feeling of seclusion while still allowing the distant sound of boat traffic. The campground's 61 sites are arranged in two family loops East and West, each with 30 sites and a single group area (Cove Creek Group). Sixty of the sites are configured to accommodate both RVs and tents, and one site is RV-only; there is also an accessible group site that can host up to 70 people. Birdlife is a highlight here visitors often spot osprey hovering or perched in lakeside trees and the quarter-mile Stahlman Point Trail is just off the campground entrance, winding through younger Douglas fir and opening to clear views of Detroit Lake. Additional trails that lead to Dome Rock and Needle Rock sit across the reservoir, and the wider Willamette National Forest offers a long list of recreation from hiking and fishing to winter sports, OHV routes, horse camping and overnight stays in historic fire lookouts or cabins. Facilities at Cove Creek are geared toward lake-focused visits: a boat ramp and dock sit adjacent to the campground for launching, and the day-use stretch provides roughly 1,000 feet of shoreline plus a dock intended for launching, loading and unloading only (no mooring). Anglers can expect rainbow trout, kokanee salmon and catfish in Detroit Lake, while swimmers, boaters and jet-skiers use the reservoir's 3,500 acres of water. On-site amenities include accessible flush toilets, drinking water and coin-operated showers, and the group campground features a sheltered eating area. Because fees, reservations and seasonal openings can change, check the Forest Service or recreation.gov for current details and to confirm access conditions; Cove Creek is reached from Highway 22 at Blowout Road (Forest Service Road 10) a few miles east of Detroit and just west of Idanha.
