“Everything good, except the water was turned off due to "theft" seems weird. Other than that it was a great camping experience.”
“Great place to camp and go fishing and pan for gold and also go swimming ”
“The camp host John was fabulous. Every time we had a question he was right there to help. We had booked a site for one night, but wanted to stay a second. He helped us accomplish that easily. We loved the swimming hole also which was not too crowded. We will definitely be back!”

Yellowbottom Recreation Site is currently closed to all access for the foreseeable future after BLM staff discovered several safety hazards during pre-season inspections; as a result, reservations were canceled for 2023 and the site remains off-limits until repairs or mitigations are completed. When open, the campground is small and intimate, with a total of 21 campsites all configured to accommodate both tents and small RVs but the single-lane access road and tight turning radius make it unsuitable for large RVs or long trailers. Yellowbottom is the only reservable BLM campground along the Quartzville corridor, and normally you can reserve a site through Recreation.gov or pay at arrival for non-reserved sites using the Recreation.gov mobile app; download the app before you reach the drainage because there is no cell reception. Campsite fees cover one vehicle per site; additional camping vehicles incur a $5 fee collected at the site (cash or check payable to the Bureau of Land Management), and the fee envelope receipt stub must be displayed on your dash. General rules for the corridor apply here: camping is restricted to designated sites, fires may only be built in the steel rings or grills provided, firewood collection is not allowed at developed campgrounds, and visitors should pack it in and pack it out at undeveloped sites. The site sits along Quartzville Creek Wild and Scenic River and is valued for old-growth forest, rock outcroppings, and immediate access to water and trails rather than for large developed amenities. A short, roughly one-mile trail from the campground leads into stands of old-growth and maturing forest, and a nearby swimming hole on Quartzville Creek is a popular draw on warm days. From Yellowbottom you can also step onto a network of Forest Service trails that head toward the Middle Santiam Wilderness, or drive the Quartzville Back Country Byway for auto-touring, river frontage, and access to additional picnic and camping spots; the byway is also where recreational mining (gold panning) is allowed on the BLM portion. The broader Quartzville corridor supports fishing, paddling, photography, picnicking and swimming, with seasonal wildflowers and vivid fall color framing views of stream pools and the nearby Green Peter Reservoir. If you're planning a trip while the site remains closed, check for sporadic availability at Old Miner's Meadow group site or nearby Forest Service and county campgrounds, but contact those managers directly because BLM does not have current availability information.
