“Great spot in the trees. Nice level spots, quiet, very friendly hosts who greeted us warmly on the way in. Probably the absolutely cleanest vault toilets we've ever seen -- granted, just pumped the day before and sanitized, but still an unexpected surprise.”
“The camp host was excellent. Some spots face away from the camp spot, ours included. The fire rings were full and the dumpster was full for all 4 days. ”
“Very nice and maintained Campground. Been there once before. Wasn't disappointed this time either. ”

Indian Trees Campground sits at roughly 5,100 feet on a forested bench just off Highway 93 in southwest Montana, about six miles south of Sula and then a short mile on Forest Road 729. The site takes its name from a stand of ponderosa pines marked by historic bark scars where Native people stripped cambium for food; those tall pines now shade the sites and give the loop a distinct, lived-in feel. The campground is an easy base for exploring the rugged Bitterroot National Forest: a 3.1-mile segment of the Nez Perce National Historic Trail begins near the campground turnoff and follows part of the original route (wagon ruts are still visible in places), the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail runs nearby, and the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail is within reachable distance. Camp Creek, close to the loop, offers anglers mostly cutthroat trout, and the broader forest hosts deer, elk and moose. If you want a soak after a day of hiking or riding, Lost Trail Hot Springs notably free of sulfur odor is less than half a mile away, and a small general store with lodging at Sula is about five miles north. The campground has 15 single-family sites 14 are suitable for RVs and one is designated for tent camping so it works well for parties traveling with recreational vehicles even though there are no utility hookups. Most sites can hold up to two vehicles and about 10 people, while one site is set aside for larger groups (up to 15 people). Each campsite includes a picnic table and a campfire ring with a grill; drinking water and accessible vault toilets are provided, and a campground host is on site during the season. Site #6 is accessible and Site #2 is set aside for bicyclists. The approach road is gravel but the campground and parking spurs are paved, which helps with maneuvering larger rigs. Because fees, reservation windows and seasonal openings can change, check with the Bitterroot National Forest office or Recreation.gov before you go; also confirm trail and river conditions if you plan to hike, mountain bike, horseback ride, fish, or explore other activities such as OHV riding, swimming at the springs, or winter sports in the surrounding forest.
