About

Morgan Bar Campground sits on the west bank of the Salmon River just north of Salmon, Idaho, where you get a clear eastern view of the Beaverhead Mountains and a sense of the region's working landscape the site was once homesteaded by the Morgan family and still shows a remnant orchard. A short trail loops around a wetland pond and follows nearly a mile of riverfront, concentrating birdlife and offering regular sightings of elk, deer and other large mammals in the surrounding foothills; rock cliffs to the west are known nesting spots for Canada geese. The river here is an important local corridor anglers come for steelhead, rainbow and cutthroat trout while floaters and tubers use the calmer stretches near Salmon; the campground's boat ramp gives straightforward access for a day on the water or a fishing float. Practical details are compact and low-key: Morgan Bar provides eight campsites that accommodate both RVs and tents, potable water, vault toilets, picnic tables, fire rings and shaded sites, plus a group picnic area and game facilities including horseshoe pits, bean-bag boards and a grass volleyball court. A campground host is on site from Memorial Day through Labor Day, though the location is otherwise unstaffed; for general questions call the Salmon Field Office at (208) 756-5400. Nightly fees are $5 per site with a $2 charge for one additional vehicle (limit one extra vehicle per site); fees are paid on-site with envelopes or via the Recreation.gov Scan & Pay App and are nonrefundable no changes, cancellations or refunds are allowed. To reach Morgan Bar, head north from Salmon on Highway 93 and turn toward the Lemhi County Fairgrounds, then follow Diamond Creek Road about a mile to where the campground sits between the road and the river; nearby points of interest include Tower Rock Campground and the Lemhi County Fairgrounds.
