Gregory K ★ 5 · Jul 2025The campground was clean and well-kept. The cost was reasonable, and it had great access to the river.
Robin R ★ 5 · May 2024Very nice campground right on the river.

Tower Rock Campground sits directly on the Salmon River at a site visited by the Lewis & Clark Expedition; William Clark recorded the nearby formation as a "Clift of dark brown flint." The river here is central to the experience anglers come for steelhead, rainbow and cutthroat trout and rafters launch from the campground's boat ramp to float calmer stretches near the town of Salmon or to tackle more challenging whitewater farther west. The landscape around the campground changes quickly from river corridor to steep outcrops of Precambrian quartzite some of the oldest rock in Idaho and nearby day-use areas such as Tower Pyramids display hoodoo-like sandstone and capstone formations. Wildlife is common in the broader Salmon Field Office management area: elk, deer, mountain goats, moose and black bears move through the surrounding ranges, and motorized and non-motorized trails, hunting opportunities, and scenic drives make this a practical stop for people passing through the Idaho Rockies near the Montana border. Practical details are straightforward: the campground is unstaffed and sits about 10 miles north of Salmon on Highway 93, on the river side of the road. There are six campsites in total four sites configured for both RVs and tents and two tent-only sites each with an accessible picnic table, a campfire ring with grill, and nearby vault toilets. Additional facilities include a picnic shelter, fishing platforms, and the boat ramp that provides direct river access; there are no electrical or water hookups. Nightly fees are $5 per site plus $2 for one additional vehicle (limit one extra vehicle per campsite); fees are paid on-site using fee envelopes or with the Recreation.gov Scan & Pay App, and changes, cancellations or refunds are not allowed. For current conditions or questions about access and travel management in the area, contact the Salmon Field Office at (208) 756-5400.
