“Beautiful campground. Facility was very clean and well-maintained. Friendly staff. Only 45 minutes from Darby, so was able to easily drive to town for great dinner at the 406. Will definitely be back.”
“Cleanest outdoor bathrooms I've ever seen! Such a great place to camp for large gatherings.”
“We love this campground! It works so well for our annual family camping trip (22 of us)... there's plenty of room to spread out so we're not right on top of each other, but a wonderful "main area" for the whole group to gather for meals and campfire time! ”

Fales Flat Campground sits in a wide meadow at the base of Nez Perce Pass beside the Nez Perce Fork of the Bitterroot River, a setting that puts water access and open riding/hiking country right at your doorstep. In addition to a large group site that can hold 15 to 100 people, the campground offers a total of 3 campsites all configured to accommodate both RVs and tents and a few equestrian spots with a horse staging area and hitching racks. Sites are gravel-surfaced with multiple picnic tables and a single large campfire circle; there are vault toilets on site but no drinking water, trash collection, or electrical/water hookups, so come prepared to pack out your garbage and carry your own water. Individual and equestrian sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis; for fees, group-site reservations, and seasonal openings check with the Bitterroot National Forest ranger district before you go. The river alongside Fales Flat makes fly fishing and wading a primary day activity, while trail access is a real draw: three trails start near the campground, including the Watchtower Trail and Sheephead Creek Trail, which provide routes into the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness and can be combined as a loop, and a steep two-mile climb that reaches the historic Bare Cone Lookout. Horseback riders will find immediate access to unimproved roads and singletrack, while hikers, wildlife watchers and anglers can use the meadow and riverside as a basecamp. The campground is reachable from the Darby area roughly 30 miles south of Darby via Highway 473 and Forest Road 468 and the small town of Conner is about 23 miles away for basic services. Beyond the campground, Bitterroot National Forest offers broader recreation opportunities including biking, boating, OHV routes, fire lookouts and cabins, hunting, swimming, and winter sports.
