Woodbine Campground sits at about 5,300 feet on the banks of the Stillwater River in southwestern Montana, directly adjacent to the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness. The site is wooded and shady, with clear views up to surrounding peaks that rise near 10,000 feet and remain snow-covered much of the year. There are 43 campsites in total; each is set up to accommodate both tents and RVs, and the campground offers a mix of individual and group sites, with some designated as accessible. Basic on-site amenities include picnic tables, metal campfire rings with grills, accessible vault toilets and potable drinking water. A first vehicle is included in the basic fee; if your site can accommodate a second vehicle there is an additional $10 charge collected at the campground, and firewood bundles are sold by the campground host. For up-to-date information about seasonal openings, reservations and facility details call the campground number: (928) 537-8888. Recreation at Woodbine centers on river- and trail-based activities. The Stillwater River and nearby streams and lakes hold rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout, making the area popular for anglers, and the Woodbine Falls Trail starts inside the campground as a 1.5-mile round-trip hike that follows Woodbine Creek to a cascade. The Stillwater Trail provides access to the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness for hikers and horseback riders, reaching Sioux Charley Lake after about three miles and continuing another 20-plus miles into backcountry terrain. Beyond fishing and hiking, the broader Custer Gallatin National Forest supports auto touring, biking, boating, picnicking, wildlife viewing (deer, elk and occasional bear), and winter sports, and the wilderness area connects into the 20-million-acre Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. The campground is remote roughly three hours from Yellowstone via the Beartooth Highway and about 57 miles west of Red Lodge, with the small communities of Nye (7 miles north) and Fishtail nearby; those towns host summer events like Nye Goes Nuts in July and Fishtail Family Fun Day in late June.
