Hawker Point sits on the leafy shore of Stockton Lake in the Missouri Ozarks and offers a calm, shady camping experience framed by rolling hills, native prairie grasses and stands of hardwood that color up in deep crimson each fall. The campground contains 45 campsites, each configured to accommodate both RVs and tents, and a handful of non-electric sites are clustered near the equestrian trailhead where horses can be kept. Practical comforts are in place: flush toilets, showers and a dump station make multi-day stays easier, and a picnic area and a boat ramp put the water quickly within reach. The park is reached south of Stockton follow State Highway 39 south then west on Highway H and because policies, fees and seasonal availability can change, it's wise to contact the park office or the managing agency for the current reservation rules before you go. Recreation at Hawker Point centers on the lake and the surrounding network of trails. Boating is a major draw (sailboats commonly race on Stockton Lake) and water-sport users have access to launch facilities; anglers will find small- and largemouth bass, crappie, white bass, walleye, catfish and sunfish in the lake's nearly 300 miles of shoreline. Several hiking and shoreline trails thread the area, and the Stockton Lake Equestrian Trail runs roughly 15 miles between Hawker Point and Orleans Trail Campgrounds for riders who want longer outings. Three full-service marinas around the lake provide boat rentals, fuel, tackle and dining, and on land you can expect wildlife sightings wild turkey, great blue heron, deer and wintering bald eagles with an annual eagle-watching event each winter for those interested in birding. Other on-site and nearby options include picnicking, a playground and sport facilities, as well as privately owned lodges and concession services around the lake.
