Damsite Park sits just above the Pomme de Terre Lake dam where Lindley Creek meets the Pomme de Terre River, set in the rolling hills of the Ozarks. The lake itself covers about 7,790 acres and offers some 113 miles of shoreline fed by cool, clear spring water, which helps explain its local nickname, the "Gem of the Ozarks." Anglers come for a strong catch ratio the lake is stocked with muskie each fall and supports healthy populations of crappie, largemouth and white bass while boaters and swimmers make use of wide open water and long coves. The park is easy to reach from Springfield (roughly 60 miles north via US-65 to Preston and west on Highway 54 toward Hermitage, then west on Highway 254 toward the dam), and the entrance is on the south side of Highway 254. Local diversions around the lake include multiple hiking trails, a nearby dirt track popular with racers, and a golf course a short drive away; on holiday weekends the dam area is the focus of a Fourth of July fireworks show. The campground accommodates overnight stays with a total of 87 campsites; the verified inventory lists all 87 sites as suitable for both RVs and tents.
