“Campground was clean and quiet at night. Bathroom was well stocked and the camp hosts were very nice. Backing in a large camper is kind of tricky with the trees on either side of the road and the road being only one lane. ”

Williams Narrows sits on the eastern shore of Cut Foot Sioux Lake inside Chippewa National Forest, where a mixed stand of birch, oak and pine shades the campground and frames occasional lake views from several sites. The looped layout is compact two loops with a boat ramp and a swimming beach located between them and the site inventory is small: there are 16 campsites in total, each set up to accommodate both RVs and tents and furnished with a picnic table and a campfire ring. Basic facilities include vault toilets and a hand-pumped drinking-water source; a host is on site from May 1 through Labor Day and sells firewood. The nightly fee is $16.00 check the Forest Service pages for current reservation procedures and seasonal opening details before you go. Boating, swimming and fishing are the campground's main draws: Cut Foot Sioux is known for muskie, and the larger nearby Lake Winnibigoshish expands options for walleye, perch, muskie, boating and water-skiing. If you prefer land routes, miles of trails in the surrounding recreation area support hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking and birding; the Simpson Creek Trail and the Cut Foot Sioux National Recreation Area Trail are reachable by boat across the narrows. Wildlife watchers should watch for loons, osprey, bald eagles and a variety of waterfowl along the shoreline. Beyond the immediate campground, Chippewa National Forest offers additional activities including auto touring, biking, OHV use, picnicking and a visitor center. The site is reached roughly 15 miles north of Deer River on Highway 46, with a short drive west on County Road 148 (Bowen/Williams Narrows Road) to the campground.
